CHI Memorial's emergency department provides 24-hour emergency care for urgent and life-threatening situations. Emergency departments are vital resources for individuals experiencing a wide range of urgent medical needs including stroke, heart attack, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, broken bones, major illnesses, and other emergency issues. FY2024, our Chattanooga, Hixson, and Georgia emergency departments had more than 36,000 visits. CHI Memorial has earned the American College of Emergency Physicians' (ACEP) Geriatric Emergency Department Level 3 Accreditation (GEDA). The program is part of an effort to improve and standardize emergency care for older patients. CHI Memorial is the first hospital in the Chattanooga area to earn GEDA and is one of only five hospitals in TN with the designation.
